DeLonghi Cappuccinatore with interchangeable nozzles submerged in a Vitaclean milk system cleaner solution — daily cleaning routine

Cappuccinatore — the most used, most neglected part of the coffee machine

The cappuccinatore (external automatic tube-based frother) is the most stressed component of a coffee machine in a home where lattes/cappuccinos are consumed. Milk passes through it 3-5 times a day, and each time it leaves microscopic residues. After 2-3 weeks of skipping the cleaning routine, the effects are visible: wet foam, metallic taste, sour smell.

The good news: the cappuccinatore can be cleaned in 10 minutes once a week. The bad news: most users don't do it and are then surprised that the foam has disappeared.

Daily routine — 30 seconds after a latte

After the last cappuccino of the day (NOT after every one, but at the end):

  1. Pull the intake tube out of the milk container
  2. Place the tube in a cup of clean water (~150 ml)
  3. Run the "milk rinse" or "rinse" program (usually a drop icon in the menu)
    • DeLonghi: Menu → Rinse Milk System
    • Saeco: Carafe icon + Rinse
    • Krups: "Auto Cappuccino Rinse" button
  4. Without a rinse program: run 100 ml of hot water through the cappuccinatore (like a regular latte, but with water instead of milk)
  5. Wipe the outer walls of the cappuccinatore with a damp cloth

This is enough to remove fresh residue from the last 8-10 hours of operation. The inner channels remain moist, but flushed out.

Time: 30 seconds. Cost: 0 PLN (water).

Weekly cycle — 10 minutes with Vitaclean milk system cleaner

Goal: dissolve dried proteins and fats that survived the daily rinse.

Procedure

  1. Pour into the milk container:

    • 30 ml of Vitaclean milk system cleaner (1 tablespoon or 2 doses from the dispenser)
    • 1 L of water (or proportionally less for 500-700 ml containers: 15 ml of Vitaclean milk system cleaner + 500 ml of water)
  2. Insert the intake tube fully into the solution

  3. Run the "milk system clean" program:

    • DeLonghi (Magnifica, ECAM, PrimaDonna): Menu → Maintenance → Clean Milk System → OK
    • Saeco (Xelsis, Lirika): Settings → Maintenance → Carafe Clean
    • Krups (Intuition, Evidence): hold milk + clean buttons for 3 sec
    • Jura (E8, S8): Menu → Care → Clean Milk System
    • Without a program: manually program 5 cappuccinos without coffee (the machine will pump the entire solution from the container)
  4. The cycle takes 5-8 minutes (with 1 L of solution in the container)

  5. Remove the container, rinse under running water, add 1 L of clean water

  6. Insert the tube back, second rinse cycle (same program or 5 cappuccinos without coffee)

  7. Final test: brew a cappuccino — the foam should be significantly better than before the cycle
