Robot mop with various bottles of cleaning agents next to it - Vitaclean concentrate for robots, Cif, vinegar, Roborock - compatibility comparison

Four features of a robot mop fluid

A Roborock, iRobot, Xiaomi, or Dreame robot mop is a precision device with 1-2 mm dosing nozzles and a low-power pump. What distinguishes a robot fluid from a standard floor cleaner? Four technical requirements:

1. Low foaming - <5% foam during operation

Foam in the tank is created by water movement. Foam under the pad is created by friction. Combined, a standard floor cleaner (Cif, Pronto, Domestos) generates 15-25% foam at room temperature - a robot has thinner nozzles (1-2 mm) than a manual mop (5-10 mm), so the foam clogs them after 5-10 operating cycles.

Home test: pour 30 ml of the tested fluid into a 500 ml PET bottle + 200 ml of water. Cap it and shake for 30 seconds. After 5 minutes, measure the height of the foam on the surface:

  • 0-1 cm = very low foaming, perfect for a robot
  • 1-2 cm = low foaming, OK for a robot
  • 2-4 cm = medium foaming, risky - use sparingly
  • >4 cm = high foaming, DO NOT put into a robot

In this test, Vitaclean concentrate produces 0.5-1 cm of foam. Cif produces 4-6 cm. Dish soap produces 8-15 cm.

2. Neutral pH - between 5.5 and 7.5

pH affects the material safety of the floor:

pH Class Safe for
1-3 Highly acidic Ceramic tiles (with caution), stone (not marble)
3-5 Slightly acidic Tiles, some plastics
5.5-7.5 Neutral All types of home floors
7.5-9 Slightly alkaline Tiles, concrete, some stones
9-11 Alkaline Only tiles and resistant surfaces
11-14 Highly alkaline Industrial surfaces

Vitaclean concentrate has a pH of 4.5 - safe for parquet, laminate, vinyl, tiles, natural stone (except marble - where we always issue a warning). Cif has a pH of 9-10 (alkaline) - aggressive for parquet and marble.

3. Fast drying time - 5-10 minutes

A low-foaming formula evaporates evenly. Drying time is a function of:

  • Surfactant composition (less greasy = faster drying)
  • Amount of water in the solution (1:20 vs 1:5)
  • Air temperature and humidity

Vitaclean concentrate dries in 5-10 minutes on laminate at room temperature (20-22°C, 40-50% humidity). A standard floor cleaner with Cif takes: 15-25 minutes.

A short drying time has 3 advantages:

  1. Safety - wet floor = slip risk, especially on laminate
  2. Less dust - dust settles on a wet surface; a fast-drying floor has less dirt after a cycle
  3. Walkable immediately - the robot finishes mopping and you can walk on it in socks after just 10 minutes

4. No residue after drying

Low foam + fast drying + pH 4.5 = no film after a cycle. What Vitaclean concentrate does:

  • Surfactants dissolve grease and dust
  • Water evaporates, carrying dirt away (into the pad)
  • After drying, the floor remains clean, without stickiness or streaks

What standard floor cleaners with soap or "polish" do:

  • Soap remains on the floor as a sticky layer
  • Dust settles on the layer faster than on a clean floor
  • After 2-3 cycles, the floor becomes dull, requiring "refreshing"
  • The robot literally makes the state of the floor worse

Comparison: Vitaclean vs competition

Vinegar 8% 0 cm 2.5 10-15 min ~0.30 PLN ⚠ acid, damages seals
Dish soap (Fairy) 8-15 cm 7-8 30+ min ~0.40 PLN ❌ extremely foamy
"Homemade" 1 tbsp vinegar + 1 soap 5-10 cm 5-6 20+ min ~0.40 PLN ❌ foamy, unpredictable

What NOT to put in your robot - blacklist

❌ Cif, Pronto, Domestos for floors - high-foaming, destroy the pump
❌ Vinegar 8% - damages silicone seals, leaves a smell
❌ Citric acid - leaves citrate residue in nozzles
❌ Dish soap (Fairy, Ludwik, Pur) - extremely foamy
❌ Liquid soap / floor milk - leaves a layer
❌ Bleaches (Domestos, Ace) - damage pads, aggressive pH
❌ Essential oils (lavender, tea tree) - oily, clog nozzles
❌ "Homemade" recipes with vinegar + soda - unpredictable chemistry, pH varies every time

What TO put in your robot - whitelist

✅ Vitaclean robot concentrate - low-foaming, neutral, approx. 66 uses per 1 L
✅ Manufacturer-branded robot cleaners (Roborock, iRobot) - more expensive but OK
✅ Professional "robot-ready" concentrates with low-foaming declaration
✅ Clean water - in "gentle" mode, for sensitive floors

What specifically happens to a robot after pouring Cif - 4 consequences and repair guide: why regular floor cleaner ruins your robot.

30-second test - check your cleaner

If you have doubts whether the cleaner you already have is OK for your robot:

  1. 500 ml PET bottle + 200 ml of (tap) water
  2. Add 30 ml of the cleaner (~2 tablespoons)
  3. Close tightly, shake for 30 seconds
  4. Set aside, wait 5 minutes
  5. Measure the foam with a ruler

Result:

In 90% of cases, regular floor cleaner will yield >4 cm - do not use, under any circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions

What properties must a mopping robot cleaner have? +

Four requirements: (1) low-foaming (<5% foam during operation) - robots have narrow nozzles that foam can clog, (2) neutral pH 5.5-7.5 - safe for parquet, vinyl, panels, (3) quick drying time of 5-10 minutes on the floor, (4) no residue after drying - so dust doesn't accumulate on a sticky layer. Vitaclean concentrate meets all 4.

Can I use Cif for a mopping robot? +

We do not recommend it. Cif for floors has a highly foaming formula (~20% foam during operation) and pH 9-10 (alkaline). Robot with Cif: nozzles clog after 5-10 cycles, sticky floor, streaks after drying. Using it once won't ruin the robot, but regular use after 1-2 months will damage the pump. Plus: strong perfume smell in the house after every mopping.

Is vinegar for a mopping robot safe? +

8% Vinegar is a strong acid (pH 2.5) - aggressive to the pump's silicone seals in a robot + it leaves a strong smell in the room after mopping (4-6 hours). Plus: most panels and parquet do not tolerate pH < 4 (the finish loses its gloss). Vinegar is OK for bathrooms with tiles, NOT for living rooms with panels. For a mopping robot: professional low-foaming Vitaclean concentrate is a 10× better option.

Can I use dish soap (Fairy, Ludwik)? +

Absolutely not. Dish soaps have 30-40% surfactants - they foam in a robot like shampoo in a bathtub. Clogged pump, nozzles, sticky floor, wet for 30+ minutes. Never put dish soap or liquid soap in a mopping robot.

How does a robot cleaner differ from branded ones (Roborock, iRobot)? +

Branded cleaners (Roborock cleaning solution ~80 PLN / 1 L, iRobot ~70 PLN / 500 ml) meet the same 4 criteria as Vitaclean concentrate but are 2-3× more expensive. The chemical composition is comparable - low-foaming surfactants + neutral pH + no preservatives. Vitaclean concentrate is produced in Germany to the same standard at a lower price. Roborock accepts "compatible low-foaming cleaners" under warranty - Vitaclean concentrate meets this.

Can I make a robot cleaner at home? +

Difficult, because you need to select low-foaming surfactants (like coco-glucoside) — you won't buy these at the supermarket. Homemade "recipes" on the internet often rely on diluting Cif or vinegar in water - this doesn't work (check the FAQs above). A professional concentrate lasts for approx. 66 uses (less than 70 groszy / cycle) - making it at home takes an hour and costs more.
